Skaia is basically the universe-creation engine part of the universe creation engine.
It's a semi-sentient godlike entity that rests at the center of all sessions of Sburb.
It is, in essence, the Story itself.
It's like Worm's conflict drive, but it plays with its own concept on a much more meta level than just that
Where WB was like superheroes fight each other endlessly because [the story needs them to/the god alien that granted them their powers wants to see those powers used creatively for the sake of preventing the End]
That's the exact same thing.
Skaia is the Light aspect personified.
Every character within the story is touched by Skaia -- a living, breathing force of narrative
On that level it is also similar to The Force, in that when things need to happen and then they just Do, it's Skaia's fault
And the cool slash terrifying thing abt Skaia is that not only is it all of the aspects at once
And the source of them
It's also the internet.
Skaia was first introduced as a joke, as in the first half of "SkaiaNet Inc," who apparently distribute the game Sburb
The connection there to the terminator is extremely intentional. Skaia is God and it is technology. SkaiaNet as a company is created by PEOPLE, not god
Doom, then, is very present in Skaia itself
Skaia is that funny feeling. It's knowing that the circumstances of your existence is determined, horrifyingly, by a force far beyond your reckoning, far outside of your control
The only thing you can really do, then, is to grab your friends, and try and leave through the front door without dying. Escape the story intact and never see Light again but in epilogue-flashes.(edited)

What is Skaia?
It's a big dumb glowy thing that a frog swims into to make the universe
Looks like this
It's identical in function (and kind of in form) to the Nexus from Lego Nexus or whatever the fuck that old MMO was called
It's Breath and Blood (Sky and Gaia)
It's Light and Void, it's Doom and Life
It is Space and Time
Mind exists within what it dictates and Heart is scattered across it
It is capitalist realism, it's the belief there's no way out
But there is a way out

and like
explicitly, playing the game and winning as intended
just kinda sets up a new civilization to eventually grow and flourish to the point when it too creates technology strong enough to host Skaia
and that civilization's world is destroyed and the game begins anew
